Date: 29-03-2019 Time: 7:30pm Venue: Floating Projects (JCCAC L3-06D) L3-06D , Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC) No.30 Pak Tin Street, Shek Kip Mei, Kowloon, Hong Kong (MTR Shek Kip Mei Station Exit C, 5-8 mins walk)
Sam Twidale, a new-media artist and programmer based in France, will come to FP and share with us about his art practise. His current series of “Real-time animation”, in collaboration with visual artist Marija Avramovic, is an experiment on how video-game technology can create a new forms of narrative within contemporary art. Through this medium the artists explore contemporary ideas of animism through a playful notion of AI. For this event, Sam will open the “black box” of his work by sharing his processes including game logic, schematics, as well as some code (!), to explain how he gives the characters “life” in a virtual sense.

About Sam Twidale
Sam Twidale and Marija Avramovic
After finishing a degree in Music and Popular Music at the University of Liverpool in 2010, Sam began a career in the visual arts, working with a number of new-media artists and galleries as an audio-visual consultant and programmer. He began working with Marija Avramovic in 2017. Ideas of storytelling and characterisation from film and video games are present within their work, especially the ability of these medias to concentrate complex human emotions into a concise experience, the inherent ‘lightness’ of which can be more affecting than in more in-depth studies of the same. http://www.samtwidale.com/
