Issues 1-4 of D-Normal/Video-Essay, FP’s online video zine, #1-4 is one of 11 Winners at Ars Electronica’s new initiative “State of the ART(ist)” (2022) dedicated to issues of urgency, from 357 submissions from 40 countries.

Four issues of an online video zine, 90 works from 200 submissions worldwide, gathered portraits of survival, existential crises and yearnings for what is lost, as alternatives to grand issue analysis. HK-based collective Floating Projects enacts participatory art by marking out the space for free articulation across borders digitally afforded.
“It’s strange that art is so often labeled as a specialty interest, but artists are always among the first to be targeted by authoritarian forces and warring parties.” — Martin Honzik, Chief Curatorial Officer at Ars Electronica and Managing Director of Ars Electronica Festival/Prix/Export.
“If art were sociopolitically irrelevant, the intense pressure being put on it in many places would seem exaggerated beyond measure.” “Art also thrives on the freedom to question everything. That is precisely what is essential in a free, democratic society, and that is why it is also indispensable that art is protected and supported. Constricted, it suffocates and only a faint flicker of the blazing fire remains. Whoever attacks art attacks freedom.” — Alexander Schallenberg, Foreign Minister of Austria
It’s a humbling experience that we are being listed among many other winners from Ukraine. The entire show is in the form of a virtual gallery.
