This poem came to Vicky Do, curator of “Back and Forth” videography exhibition, as she worked through the ocean of rich emotions in the 20 works presented in the show. The poem is her reconnection with her late grandmother.
//
pieces from your skin | breathing spell | pieces on my eyes
the moment i said goodbye,
you’d already closed your eyes,
all i could remember
were the pieces of your skin
wrinkled, age-spotted, pale
i scanned the room with my eyes for the last time
white room, ceiling fan, breath-support machine and one little sick bed
and you were lying there
all in silence
i left
before death came
i imprinted the moment in my head
by my eyes
And that moment will live forever
